GT Screening Open Through Oct. 9 for Families Seeking to Level Up Academically @ Katy ISD
KATY, TX [September 29, 2025] – Katy ISD, a leader in academic excellence, is accepting parent observation checklists for the Gifted and Talented (GT) program through Oct. 9. The screening applies to first through fourth grade students, and the program supports students who consistently perform above state and national academic benchmarks.
The process to identify gifted and talented students includes a variety of measures, such as standardized tests and teacher/parent observations. Qualified elementary students will participate in a one-day-a-week GT pullout class led by a teacher trained in gifted education.
“For parents of high-achieving students, the GT screening can assess if their child is ready for more challenging coursework,” Katy ISD Director of GT and Advanced Academics Danielle Sanchez said.
Families interested in the GT program can learn more by logging into the GT/Advanced Academics Program Information Session at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, via Microsoft Teams in English or Spanish.
Parents/Guardians who are ready to refer their child(ren) for screening can follow the simple instructions listed below.
How to Refer Your Child for Screening
- Students in Grades 1-4: To refer a child for screening, parents/guardians should complete and return the parent observation checklist (below) by the Oct. 9 deadline.
- Accessing the Checklist: The checklist is available through the parent My Katy - Gifted and Talented app. Visit the Gifted and Talented Website for more information.
- Important Note: The District does not accept late checklists.
